The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for planning and delivering nursing care to patients/residents in need of prolonged or rehabilitative care.
RNs must be able to work effectively in high-stress environments, managing multiple tasks and priorities while remaining calm and focused on providing the highest quality care:
- Executes responsibilities that are in line with the Nurse Practice Act, facility protocols, and judicious nursing reasoning.
- Ensures that nursing care adheres to standards of ethical and professional nursing practice.
- Individuals in need of long-term or recovery care are given nursing services.
- The care plan for the resident is executed, and their response is assessed to ensure proper care is being provided.
- Guides and supervises the delivery of care by nursing professionals.
- Offers insights into ways to measure and assess the impact of care standards on patient outcomes.
- Ensures familiarity with the necessary paperwork demands.
- Skilled in the configuration, maintenance, and utilization of different medical equipment, including infusion pumps, monitors, and drainage systems.
- Ensures the privacy of patients/residents and personnel by following the established policies and procedures that respect their rights and maintain confidentiality.
- Imparts necessary instruction to patients, residents, family, and caregivers based on their distinct needs or orders.
- Maintains a professional code of conduct as set forth by unit and facility policies and procedures.
- Adheres to a schedule that requires working a rotating shift pattern, including weekends and public holidays.
Becoming a registered nurse entails having the appropriate educational qualifications and practical experience:
- In order to become a graduate of a basic education program in nursing, one must have finished a professional nursing program.
- One year of experience in medical/surgical nursing is required for individuals interested in working in an acute care or long-term care facility, with acute or critical care experience being desirable.
- Qualifications for this job include an active RN license in the state(s) of practice, as well as a reliable form of transportation.
