The inception of Seward Motor Freight dates back to the early 1940s when founders Willard and Wanda Miers established the company as an LTL (less than truckload) undertaking focused on transporting freight between Omaha and Seward, Nebraska. The business was later acquired and incorporated by Wayne and Joanie Tanderup in 1969, with the couple spearheading the company's growth during the 1970s. A pivotal moment occurred in 1987 when Seward Motor Freight, Inc. secured long-haul permits from the I.C.C. (Interstate Commerce Commission), enabling the transportation of general commodities across the continental United States and transitioning the company into a TL (truckload) carrier.
Throughout the 1980s, Seward Motor Freight, Inc. underwent expansion by purchasing various trucking firms, thereby increasing their operational scope and cargo handling capabilities. The company specializes in dry box van transportation of general commodities and holds permits to operate across all 48 states, albeit with limited geographical constraints within the U.S.
